Summer Sevens

Lane Cove Summer Sevens LogoWe’re back!!!! After a sensational inaugural touch rugby competition last year, we’re back and have some exciting changes that we have been working on all year.

 The first thing that you will notice is that we are now called Lane Cove Summer 7s. The name change and departure from Viva 7s is because the organisers believe the costs of licensing the Viva7s game far outweighed any benefits we received from the Australian Rugby Union.  By changing to Summer 7s, we can pass on benefits to the players with a better competition and more social activities.  Summer 7s delivers more fun, a better atmosphere and is great for all ages.

 We have also been able to secure the lower oval at Blackman Park for games as well the astroturf field that we played on last year. The additional space means that we can have more games going on at the same time, with the intention of finishing gameplay earlier in the evening. We are hoping to recreate the community festival feeling every week that we achieved last year and will be once again putting on a canteen, BBQ and bar plus some special surprises.

Registrations open on 1st September and you will have the opportunity to register online at or at one of our registration days (see below). Every player from last year will receive a link with the online registration details towards the end of August. PS – If you don’t have a team don’t worry. Register as an individual and make some new friends!

Subtle Rule Changes, Age Groups & Grading

Due to our departure from Viva 7s, there will be a subtle rule change. For those of you who are already familiar with the rules, players will no longer be required to face backwards to play the ball. All other rules remain the same.

Competition age groups will be:
Minis = Age 9 and below
Juniors = Age 13 to 10
Seniors = Age 16 to 14
Open = Age 17+

The adult teams will also be graded so that everyone has the opportunity to shine on the field.

Would you like to be one of our referees?

We need great referees too. If you are interested in becoming a referee for the Lane Cove Summer 7s competition, please contact Mark Cashion on 0434 580 825 or

Referees will be paid for each game that they referee – it’s a great way to earn extra $$$ on a Friday afternoon.
